Should I update Java?

Oddly enough, I get asked this quite a bit... First off, Java, or more importantly the Java Runtime Environment, is a virtual environment that allows other programs to run. It's that room in your house that's festooned with hooks, rails and anchor points and can be a home gym one day, a theatre room the next, and the day after that... well... It's widely popular to program in as the applications themselves only need to know how to run in the Java environment and have little to no dependencies on whether you're running a PC, Mac or Linux machine. The updates to Java that appear every now and then are released for additional functionality and updated security and stability. Yes, install them.
